Shallow Depth of Field

Photographer: Casey Mendoza
Subject: Chealsie Blas

What do you see? In the photograph, I see flowers and grass, as well as a model, up close. In the blurred background is a building.

How is the work organized? The shapes that are identifiable in the photograph are the plants and flowers that the subject is holding. You could also identify the building and window in the background, and also another tree that is blurred. The image is in focus intentionally to capture the subject of the photograph, which is the model and the flowers.

What is the artist trying to communicate? The image has a good contrast between the background and the subject, therefore, it gives it a good lighting and makes it work. The photo, which was taken outdoors, is bright in some areas and the model is dark which gives it a good contrast.

What do you think of the work? I think that the photograph was successful and it turned out the way I wanted it to be. The image came out good and has different tones that makes it much better. All the focusing, contrast, lighting, and other elements that were used made this image successful and a good image of a shallow depth of field.
